Inspired by the success of the model implemented in Ambatondrazaka, Madagasikara Voakajy has adapted and introduced the VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) approach, locally known as VOAMAMI, to the area surrounding Lake Tseny.

In total, seven community savings and loan groups have been established across five fokontany (Zafindrazaka, Anjiamarina, Anjiajia, Ankazobe, and Tsaratanana), bringing together 155 members, with a majority of women. These associations enable local residents to save money, access small loans, and finance income-generating activities while strengthening solidarity and trust within their communities.

The establishment of the VOAMAMI groups followed several key steps: member training, development of internal regulations, election of management committees, and ongoing support from thematic officers trained in the VSLA process.

Beyond promoting the economic empowerment of women and households, this initiative aims to reduce community vulnerability to climate change and support the sustainable conservation of Lake Tseny and its surrounding watershed areas.

A strong example of community-driven innovation and resilience, contributing both to local well-being and biodiversity conservation.
