The BaoBat 2 is a joint project between RBG KewRBG Kew, University of Antananarivo and Madagasikara Voakajy to protect the baobab Adansonia suarezensis. It is a multidisciplinary project, focused on the study of pollination, the animal interaction with fruits and seeds, and the reinforcement of natural populations of Diego baobab, an emblematic tree of Antsiranana Regions. In situ restoration, leaded by Madagasikara Voakajy, has been initiated since September 2022.

The main objective is to produce 5 000 seedlings of Adansonia suarezensis, associated native species and fruit trees. The project was carried out in close collaboration with local communities, particularly in Marotaolana and Bobaomby.
