Research on hunting and consumption of wild animals in Madagascar, leading to environmental education programs to stop the hunting of lemurs in Protected areas (PAs), and the confirmation of the presence of the endemic fish known as Damba menarambo in Lac Tseny.
Our Programmes
Applied research and monitoring-evaluation
- Strengthen applied research programs to better understand the population dynamics of target species such as Grandidier's baobab and golden mantella.
- Update databases on flagship species and share results with authorities and stakeholders to improve conservation strategies.
Restoration of natural habitats
- Intensify active restoration efforts in Protected Areas and management transfer zones in collaboration with local communities, particularly through agroforestry and planting of native species.
- Maintain a dynamic database onrestoration actions and train nurserymento support these initiatives.
Community engagement
- Strengthening the capacities of VOI (Vondron’Olona Ifotony) to improve governance and management of natural resources.
- Increase the economic benefits of communities by developing income-generating activities, particularly through the promotion of products.
Economic valuation of endemic species
- Promote sustainable economic sectors based on endemic species, with particular attention to compliance with environmental and social standards.
- Strengthen advocacy initiatives for the commercialisation of species listed in CITES Appendix II, while ensuring equitable benefits for local communities.

Our Theory of Change
In order to reverse the extinction risk of endangered species, Madagasikara Voakajy proposes a theory of change based on applied research, restoration of degraded habitats, community conservation as well as the development of promising industries, notably through the valorization of endemic species.
