Le saviez-vous que trois parmi les huit espèces de baobab présentes à Madagascar sont classées actuellement dans la liste rouge de l’UICN ou Union International pour la Conservation de la Nature ? Ces baobabs sont Bozilahy (Adansonia suarezensis), Bozibe (Adansonia perrieri) et Renala (Adansonia grandidieri). Avant, ces trois espèces sont classées En dangers (EN) ; mais, après Juin 2019, Bozibe, l’espèce A. perrieri devient En danger critique (CR).

« Damba menarambo », Paretroplus menarambo est une espèce de poisson classée en Danger Critique d’extinction (CR) selon la Liste Rouge des espèces menacées de l’UICN. Déclaré comme éteint à l’état sauvage en 2004, ce poisson endémique de Madagascar a été redécouvert dans le lac Tseny, District du Port-Bergé, Région Sofia en 2010. La surpêche,  la dégradation d’habitat et la prolifération des espèces invasives caractérisent les menaces essentielles sur cette espèce.

The Indri (Indri indri) and Diademed Sifaka (Propithecus diadema) are among the largest lemurs of Madagascar. Both are listed Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List (Version 3.1) due to predicted population decline by 80% in the next 36-45 years caused by habitat loss and degradation and increasing hunting pressures. If Madagascar loses its lemurs, the country is likely to lose a major proportion of its income from ecotourism, while missing key ecosystem services provided by lemurs and their forest habitat. It is therefore urgent to save the lemurs from extinction.
