From October 11 to 14, 2024, Madagasikara Voakajy, in partnership with the USAID Mikajy project, provided new equipment to VOI (local community-based organizations) for the transformation of local products in the Menabe region.

63 regulated fishing nets distributed to local fishermen. This initiative is part of the protection of the endemic species "Damba Menarambo" (Paretroplus menarambo), a native fish threatened by unsustainable fishing methods.

At dawn , on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 8 rangers took on a major challenge by participating in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organized by Tusk. They covered 21 kilometers  by foot through the humid forests of the Mangabe Protected Area, each carrying a 22 kg backpack.  This protected area is habit to an iconic and endangered species, the Mantella auriantiaca, a small golden frog endemic to Madagascar.  

This was the central question addressed during the workshop organized on September 19, 2024, in Moramanga, in collaboration with local communities living around the protected area of Mangabe. Sixty people, originating from the four fokontany included in the PA, participated in this event.

This year, Madagasikara Voakajy is actively participating in the Wildlife Ranger Challenge (WRC). The team already completed the 22.44 km time trial challenge last July. The Sit-up Challenge is scheduled for today, September 12, 2024. The grand finale of this challenge will take place on September 21, where our teams will run 21 km carrying 22 kg of gear through the forest and mountains of our protected area in Mangabe. This year, we have formed two teams of four people for this grand finale. Each team is composed of one MV staff member and three rangers from the local community.

Last year, we also participated in this challenge. We built a relationship with Tusk, the organizer of this challenge, to raise funds to support both us and the rangers.
