Madagasikara Voakajy is celebrating its twentieth year of commitment to Malagasy biodiversity. With two decades of collaboration with local communities and international partners, the organization is marking this anniversary with a series of events in Madagascar and abroad, while announcing new ambitions for the years to come.

The first celebrations took place in the United Kingdom, where two key events reflected the journey accomplished. On June 19th, Chester Zoo hosted a symbolic ceremony alongside long-time partners of the organization. A few days later, on June 30th, Madagasikara Voakajy was honored in Cambridge during the event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP), of which MV is an alumnus. These gatherings provided an opportunity to revisit the early days of the organization, founded by young researchers trained through the CLP, and to envision the next chapter with international allies.

In parallel, the organization is preparing a program of activities in Madagascar for 2025. An official celebration is planned at the headquarters in Antananarivo, with the participation of national partners. Additional events will be held at various MV project sites across the country, highlighting the community-based foundation of its work.

Since 2005, Madagasikara Voakajy has helped train 44 young Malagasy researchers, guided 370 youth from local communities into leadership roles, and supported 35 grassroots communities in managing their natural resources sustainably. These figures reflect a strong vision: to make conservation a tool for local empowerment and lasting transformation.

On this occasion, the organization expresses its gratitude to its partners for their ongoing support. It calls on them to continue investing in youth, and community-driven solutions, the core of its strategy. The next few years will be decisive: 8,000 hectares of habitat to restore, five sustainable value chains to develop, and tailored conservation strategies for each target species to implement. Above all, there is a new generation of leaders to train and support.

After two decades of action, Madagasikara Voakajy has confirmed its place in the conservation. It moves forward with the same conviction: sustainable solutions are born from the ground, built through collaboration, and embodied by the women and men who protect biodiversity every day.
