As part of the Fitantanana Maharitra ho lovain-jafy project, Madagasikara Voakajy, in partnership with the “Direction Régionale de l’Agriculture et de l’Élevage” (DRAE) in Ambatondrazaka, organized an important training session for lead farmers from four fokontany (villages) in the commune of Imerimandroso.

This initiative, held from May 14 to 15, 2025 in Tsarahonenana, district of Ambatondrazaka, focused on strengthening agricultural techniques and developing local leadership.

The main goal of this project is clear: to support the livelihoods of rural communities in order to enhance their economic autonomy while promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The training primarily addressed the improvement of farming practices, notably through the use of "ady gasy", a traditional Malagasy organic fertilizer. This approach aims to optimize agricultural while preserving soil fertility and local biodiversity. By strengthening farmers’ technical skills, the project contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture.

Community leadership at the heart of change

Beyond agricultural techniques, a key component of the training focused on leadership development. The trained farmers are expected to become drivers of change within their communities. Their role is to raise awareness among their peers and initiate local actions aimed at sustainably improving both living conditions and the environment.

This project is part of a broader vision where environmental protection cannot be separated from the well-being of local populations. By actively supporting livelihoods, Madagasikara Voakajy and its partners help create a virtuous cycle: more autonomous and aware communities become actively engaged in conserving their natural resources.

This integrated approach is a cornerstone of the Fitantanana Maharitra ho lovain-jafy project, which promotes sustainable and inclusive resource management for a lasting environmental and social legacy.
