The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is a website that provides information on the risk of extinction facing the world’s animal and plant species. The status of each species is assessed by a panel of experts using the best available information. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is also dynamic because it is subject to annual updates which allow changes in the extinction risk of species to be incorporated.

Madagasikara Voakajy worked with the IUCN to prepare preliminary accounts of Malagasy reptile species that were evaluated by experts in January 2011 for inclusion on the Red List of Threatened Species. Over 300 species were formally included on the Red List in November 2011.
